What is Sirtfood Diet?

This diet is based on research on sirtuins (SIRTs), a group of seven proteins found in the body that has been shown to regulate a variety of functions, including metabolism, inflammation, and lifespan.

and According to Goggins, the Sirtfood diet was created as “the antidote to conventional dieting.” He and his partner, Glen Matten, were both “diet skeptics” because of their history as nutritional medical scientists. Instead of focusing on weight loss, the Sirtfood diet is based on activating sirtuin genes. Sirtuins are proteins that are members of a family of enzymes. They activate and are typically utilized in response to stress and metabolism, explained Kristin Kirkpatrick, a registered dietitian.

Whos Uses it Amongst Celebrities?

Adele‘s weight loss has been all anyone can talk about recently, especially after photos emerged of the singer reportedly seven stone lighter at the Oscars after-party.

This comes after photos emerged of the singer holidaying on a beach in Anguilla over Christmas having lost three stone.

How did she achieve it? Apparently by taking up the Sirtfood Diet – famous for actively encouraging those following it to have red wine and chocolate.

The Sirtfood Diet is based on the book by the same name that was written by Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten. The diet focuses on eating so-called sirtfoods, a group of “wonder foods” that include nutrient-rich options like kale, cocoa, strawberries, and coffee.

Is it that Effective?

The Author says one positive of the diet is that all of the foods you can eat on the plan are good for you, meaning your overall vitamin, mineral and nutrient intake will likely be high.

However, he also adds that any diet that cuts out entire food groups could be dangerous. ‘The idea of switching on your ‘skinny gene’ is not really backed up by very strong research. The Sirtfood diet overall is pretty restrictive in terms of both foods and calories, which may make it difficult to stick too. The problem is there isn’t much proof to back them.

Steps to follow:

The diet is split into 2 Parts.

Part 1:  the 7 day ‘hyper success part’, which combines a Sirtfood-rich diet with moderate calorie restriction, and part 2: the 14-day ‘maintenance part’, where you consolidate your weight loss without restricting calories.

During the first 3 days, calorie intake is restricted to 1,000 calories (so, still more than on a 5:2 fasting day). The diet consists of 3 Sirtfood-rich green juices and 1 Sirtfood-rich meal and 2 squares of dark chocolate.

part 2: does not focus on calorie restriction. Each day involves 3 Sirtfood-rich meals and 1 green juice, plus the option of 1 or 2  Sirtfood bite snacks if required.

In part 2 you are allowed to drink red wine, but in moderation (the recommendation is 2-3 glasses of red wine per week), as well as water, tea, coffee, and green tea.
