Adele almost broke the internet in 2020 when her incredible weight loss was revealed. 

The Someone Like You singer – who recently suffered a song leak – shared a string of photos looking almost unrecognisable, having lost seven stone following her split from the father of her child, Simon Konecki, back in 2019.

The couple were said to have been “living separate lives” for years leading up to their public separation, but are committed to raising their seven-year-old son, Angelo, “lovingly” together.

They only just recently finalized the details of the divorce after a two-year battle over finances and reportedly used a “mediator” to split her £140m fortune.

Adele, 32, made a series of lifestyle changes after the couple’s split and ended up losing seven stone in the process.

Making reference to her post break-up transformation in an Instagram post, the singer said, “I used to cry but now I sweat.” This self-help book is also said to have helped change her life. 

And while Adele’s weight loss has certainly garnered attention from her thousands of online followers, the question on everyone’s lips remains the same: How did Adele lose all that weight?

How did Adele lose so much weight?

Since relocating to LA, Adele has embarked on a drastic lifestyle overhaul and enlisted the help of some pals along the way.

Prior to the covid-19 pandemic, Adele and Robbie Williams’ wife Ayda Field often took part in joint workouts together at Robbie’s LA home with trainer Camilla Goodis. 

And Adele used to rub shoulders with fellow pop royalty, Mel C AKA Sporty Spice, who trained in the same gym. 

In terms of exercise, Adele is thought to be a huge fan of Reformer Pilates, a special type of pilates which uses a machine to help work your core and improve on overall flexibility, as well as HIIT training – which is high-intensity workouts that can be completed at home. 

We know Adele also enjoys weight training, as she previously confessed, “I mainly moan. I’m not, like, skipping to the [expletive] gym. I don’t enjoy it. I do like doing weights. I don’t like looking in the mirror.”

No doubt needing to channel her emotions, Adele found solace in the gym following the breakdown of her relationship.

“After Adele started working out, she never looked back. She was instantly a changed person with a different mindset,” an insider revealed.

While people are no doubt keen to follow in Adele’s footsteps thanks to her huge transformation, her former personal trainer, Pete Geracimo, said it hasn’t been an easy process and has taken a lot of hard work and determination. 

In an Instagram post dedicated to Adele, he said, “My hope is that people appreciate the hard work that Adele has done to improve herself for the benefit to her and her family only. She did not lose the weight to make others feel bad about themselves. She is doing it for herself and for Angelo.

“When Adele and I started our journey together, it was never about getting super skinny. It was about getting her healthy. Especially post-pregnancy and post-surgery. When 25 dropped and the tour announced, we had to get ready for a 13-month gruelling schedule. In that time, she warmed to training and made better food choices.”

How much weight did Adele lose in total?

No one can deny that Adele is looking incredible at the moment, so it’s no surprise that her recent appearance on Saturday Night Live in October sent the internet into total meltdown.

Even she joked about her weight loss and made reference to her last public appearance in 2016 when she headlined Glastonbury Festival. 

“I know I look really, really different since you last saw me,” Adele joked – referring to her live public appearance in 2016 when she headlined Glastonbury.

“But actually, because of all the Covid restrictions…I had to travel light and I could only bring half of me, and this is the half I chose.”

Although it is difficult to estimate exactly how much weight Adele has lost, it has been widely reported that she has shed seven stone.

While the weight loss has been a “bonus” training has given mum-of-one, Adele, a new “lease of life” according to pals.

“She has been loving her new workout regime and it really works for her,” an insider revealed. “It’s a bonus that she has shifted some weight. Her mates are glad she’s letting loose and there’s nothing but good feelings towards her. She’s got a new lease of life.”

What was Adele’s 2020 diet plan?

As well as hitting it hard in the gym, Adele made some drastic changes to her diet too and reportedly followed the Sirtfood diet.

Sirtfoods are mostly plant-based and high in antioxidants, which are meant to help trick your body into burning fat at a much higher rate. 

Some of these foods include: kale, red wine, strawberries, garlic, onion, dark chocolate, walnuts, buckwheat and turmeric.

The Sirtfood diet combines eating these specific foods with intermittent fasting to progressively shed the pounds.

While nothing about Adele’s diet plan has been confirmed by the songstress herself, we do know that she has ditched unhealthy habits like drinking ten cups of tea a day. 

She previously confessed, “I used to drink 10 cups a day with two sugars in each so I was on 20 sugars a day.”
