The day after Adele turned 32 last year, she posted a rare snap of herself on Instagram and left many who saw the pic with jaw-dropping feeling.

The London-born singer is not a prolific posting on social media and since her relocation to California, she had not been seen that much by her fans and followers.

After a pic from Drake’s birthday party showed that Adele had lost weight, it was her photo on May 6, 2020 which showcased her seven stone loss in its full glory and the sensational pic left millions scrabbling for their keyboards to share thoughts on what they have seen.

Alongside the snap, in which Adele wore a little black dress, she captioned it: “Thank you for the birthday love. I hope you’re all staying safe and sane during this crazy time.

“I’d like to thank all of our first responders and essential workers who are keeping us safe while risking their lives! You are truly our angels.

“2020 okay bye thanks x”

Naturally the reaction was huge and her celebrity friends and followers were soon posting their praise., with the post being liked over 12.62million times.

Chrissy Teigen was in disbelief over the 32-year-old’s body transformation, commenting: “I mean are you kidding me.”

Tom Hanks wife, actress Rita Wilson added: “Happy Birthday, Adele. Sending you so much love! Looking gorgeous!”

Celebrity makeup artist James Charles also gushed over the Grammy winner’s post, writing “YOU LOOK AMAZING”.

After the initial response came the rumours as to how Adele achieved her transformation.

The first thoughts were that she had found inspiration from The Body Coach, Joe Wicks, and that she did his online workouts in her home.

However, it later emerged that it was her son, Angelo, that inspired Adele to lose weight.

A source had previously told PEOPLE Magazine: ‘She got to the point where she didn’t feel great. She knew she had to change something, because she wants to be the healthiest mum possible.

‘Her whole focus during the weight loss journey has really been all about how she can be healthier and how can she treat her body better.

‘It was never about losing weight.’

Then came the reasoning that the celebration of Adele losing weight was sexist and there was a backlash against the positive comments.

Mary McNamara, a culture columnist and critic for the Los Angeles Times, wrote at the time: “Then came the criticism of the compliments, which included ‘Adele has always been beautiful,’ ‘Let’s not applaud weight loss like it’s a big achievement, thereby perpetuating the notion that all women should be thin'”.

She continued: “As if the female body is an aggregate. As if anyone really believes that someone told Adele, ‘If you don’t drop 20 pounds, your career is over.’

“Adele is a singer-songwriter superstar whose words speak to us in a voice that haunts us.

“What her body looks like has nothing to do with it in any way. It certainly has nothing to do with us in any way.”

There were also the ‘experts’ who theorised that her new look could not have been achieved without the help of cosmetic surgery.

Dr Howard Sobel, a board-certified dermatologic surgeon, said that it appears the singer may have had some Botox and filler injected into her face.

He told Page Six at the time: “Given her weight loss, she would have also lost facial volume, leading her features to droop.

“Since she looks fresh-faced and wrinkle-free, I suspect that she has had fillers in multiple facial areas, including her nasolabial folds and Botox on the upper third of her face.”

He then admitted: “I think Adele looks wonderful! It’s great to see that she seems to be looking and feeling her best.

“At the age of 32, her body is still quite resilient and can bounce back from such dramatic weight loss quite easily.”
